Google Tightens Internal AI Usage for Engineers
Google has issued fresh internal guidelines requiring its software engineers to use only Google’s in-house AI models for coding tasks. Any reliance on external or third-party AI platforms—such as GitHub Copilot or ChatGPT—for development work now needs prior approval.
CEO Sundar Pichai emphasized that this move strengthens Google’s AI ecosystem, ensures data security, and improves overall developer productivity. The new rule reflects the company’s strategy to centralize AI usage while reducing dependence on competitors.
This also aligns with a broader industry trend where large tech companies are tightening internal AI governance, both to safeguard proprietary data and to accelerate adoption of their own AI tools.
